Responding to Tracy’s invitation on Purple Swamphen … here’s my contribution.
It is a rare visit to Big Swamp, Bunbury when I don’t come across one or more purple swamphen. Poised on the grassy bank.
Or feeding
The blues shimmer into indigo and purple when they move.
They are usually shy but also protective. Their warning call is a fearsome screech.
This was a rare sighting of a chick this spring.
Until next time
As always
a dawn bird
Yes, and thanks for the post, very shy, I have counted several young this year.

Lovely. I think they look pre-historic. When I look at them I can imagine dinosaurs with feathers. It must have been exciting to see the chick.

They are so shy that I’ve seen glimpses of chicks before, but never one so visible.

I’ve never been there. I should visit one of these days.

There’s a surprising amount of bird life there including blue bill ducks!

I’ve photographed blue bill ducks somewhere but can’t remember where! They are quite special.
